Water for Elephants

I loved this gritty tale, and part of what made it fun was the "primary-color prose, sobbing, etc". that Cleveland Plain Dealer found so distasteful.
It was fast moving and fun to read, especially from the viewpoint of the elderly Jacob, and it had some really great surprises! Thanks Sara!

After WATER Read....

I agree that WATER FOR ELEPHANTS is a great book! You know, I think I have enjoyed books about the circus all my life, perhaps starting with good, ol' Toby Tyler many years ago. Another recent book that takes place in a cricus atmosphere that I would love to recommend is BLUE MOON CIRCUS by Michael Raleigh. By turns funny, spiritual, and always mesmerizing it's the story of a very strange circus. The story involves a young boy cominbg to age under the eye of his uncle who owns the place, a magician who may be something more, a clown and -- oh, yes, an elephant that you will never forget.
