Are any of you interested in podcasts? A podcast is like a radio show but distributed over the Web. It's called a "pod"cast because the majority of listeners use iPods and the iTunes area from Apple. However, just about any MP3 player can be used and many podcasters also have sites where the show can be listened to right in your browser (we do that as well). There are all sorts of podcasts that are available to people who enjoy books and reading. I particularly like the one from NPR as well as from The Guardian. Just about all podcasts are offered for free.
As to my own podcast of BookHobby here is our latest release:
The BookHobby podcast is devoted to booklovers, people who like us understand our motto that “Books Are More Precious Than Gold.” Podcast number 8 is now available at feeds.feedburner.com/bookhobbycom or directly on our website at http://www.bookhobby.com or on almost all popular venues including, of course, iTunes.
Our new show marks our return after a brief absence and concentrates on a review of a challenging but rewarding new novel ABC by David Plante. Have you ever wondered why the alphabet is in the order that you learned as a child? Why does A come before B, why does the series GHI come before MNO? The protagonist, Gerard, in ABC has had a terrible tragedy in his life and is looking for some sort of cosmic answer. He becomes obsessed with the notion that the sequences of the letters of the alphabet hold some sort of encoded message, some sort of look into the face of God or at least a key to the clockworkings of the Universe. A journey to the edge of madness via the transport of Semiotics and a swim in the worlds of pre-History. Check our review, I think you will be intriqued.
